Piedmont Medical Writers LLC has been in operation since 2001 and under that name since 2006.

Company Founders

Peter G. Aitken, PhD, received his degree in neuroscience from the University of Connecticut. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University, he joined the faculty at Duke University Medical Center where he was involved in preclinical and clinical research and teaching in the Departments of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Surgery. He left Duke in 2000 to start a consulting business and since then has been actively involved in writing regulatory and educational documents for the pharmaceutical industry.

Maxine M. Okazaki, PhD, received her degree in pharmacology from the University of Toronto. She came to Duke University Medical Center as a Research Associate in the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology and later was appointed to the faculty. She left Duke in 2001 and has worked as a Senior Medical Writer, Clinical Research Scientist II, and Manager of Medical Writing at several contract research organizations, with an emphasis on regulatory documents.
